The 20 FACTS you don’t know about Robin Williams!
1. He was born on July 21, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois. He has English, Irish, German, Scottish and French roots.
2. Because of his mother’s affiliation with the “Christian Science” sect, he was raised in a church. He later took up the matter in a comic way, where he wrote “The 10 Most Important Reasons to Be a Church.”
3. Williams was a shy and quiet kid who didn’t get over his shyness until he joined the acting department at his high school.
4. He studied political science at Claremont University in California. But he did not complete his studies and turned to acting.
5. He studied theater for three years at the College of Marin in California.
6. Robin Williams started his career as a “stand-up comedian” and had his first show in San Francisco in 1970.
7. In 1973 William was able to obtain a full scholarship from the Juilliard School (one of the most famous international art institutes), and he was among only 20 students who entered the institute that year.
8. He left Juilliard during his freshman year after a director told him that “Juilliard had nothing more to teach Williams.”
9. Robin broke many records in the field of comedy shows, sometimes his tickets were sold out within 30 minutes.
10. Robin stated that the stand-up comedian and his many shows put him under stress, and led him to take drugs and alcohol.
11. He quit drugs and alcohol in 1980 when his son Zack was born.
12. Williams moved to television, becoming famous for his character Mork on the TV show “Mork and Mindy.”
13. His first movie was “Can I Do It… ‘Til I Need Glasses??” in 1977.
14. His first major movie work was in the movie “Popeye” 1980.
15. “Good Morning, Vietnam” 1987 was the movie that opened the door to stardom. It was nominated for an Oscar.
16. Williams was not only famous as a comedian, but also had an impact on the drama and won an Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his role in “Good will hunting.”
17. In 2004 Robin raised $80 million for the homeless. He was a supporter of women’s rights.
18. Encourage reading books. He was a fan of cycling, and collected a large collection of bikes.
19. In 2003 he returned to drinking alcohol. He entered a rehabilitation clinic in 2006, and returned to another clinic in 2014.
20. He suffered from depression and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease before his death.
