JAMES BOND : The death of Queen Elizabeth II will have consequences for the sequel of 007
The 26th opus of the 007 saga will indeed be that of renewal! New interpreter for the famous agent, new director, new distribution company… and new boss.
Indeed, if until now James Bond was at the service of Her Majesty the Queen, 007 will now be at the service of Her Majesty “the King and the homeland”, following the death of Elizabeth II on September 8th.
The new secret agent will therefore be the first in history to serve a man. This is what franchise producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson told AFP after putting their fingerprints on Hollywood Boulevard.
Barbara Broccoli specifies from the start: “We are only just beginning our relationship with Amazon. We haven’t really started to get involved in the next film yet”.
As a reminder, in 2021, Amazon bought the historic MGM studio, which has the distribution rights for the 007 films, for $8.5 billion. The historic producers must therefore find common ground with the American giant before launching James Bond 26.
JAMES BOND WORKS NOW FOR THE KING AND THE HOMELAND
The producer then states: “But some things are immutable. Bond is the central character and therefore the most important element of these films. We believe that he is incorruptible, that he works for the queen and now the king and the country.
He is not there for his personal gain. He’s here to try to make the world safer. It’s something we certainly wouldn’t change.”
She specifies: “Our father [Albert Broccoli, the producer who decided to adapt the novels of Ian Fleming] has always tried to give us the confidence necessary to take risks so that Bond can evolve over the years . We like to try things, sometimes it works, sometimes not, but it allows you to remain innovative “.
Barbara Broccoli therefore confirms that the 26th James Bond adventure will be that of change.
But the producer and her half-brother Michael Wilson also tell Variety that finding the interpreter of His Majesty’s secret agent is not easy since it is necessary that the happy elected representative is available during a dozen of years.
“When we cast a casting for Bond, it’s a 10, 12 year old commitment. The actor must say to himself: ‘Do I really want to do this thing?’ Not everyone wants to do it. It was quite difficult to convince Daniel Craig … It’s a big commitment. We are not talking about a shoot of a few months. ”
